The Waste-free Journey

There was plastic there man, plastic over there. Everywhere I looked man, I looked over there and guess what? Plastic. Okay not quite, but we asked our crew for no plastic again and again and when we received some of our goods... they shipped it in plastic...

During this first collection – just like a lot of you – we got sent a bunch of our materials in plastic. I just want to be open about our footprint and let you know that despite our best efforts, this first collection wasn’t 100% eco, 100% waste-free. I feel like a lot of brands don't keep it real. We want to be open about it because while we’re boasting about the sustainable materials we use in our packaging and shipping to you, we want to make sure you all know we weren’t perfect from the day dot. We always want to stay true, open, and honest to you all. We believe if our intentions are good, you’ll understand. And if not, well, too bad.. :)

We’re making some changes and crafting some things, so this doesn’t happen again moving forward. Besides this, the rest of our packing with this collection has been carefully created with ethical practices in mind from recycled cardboard to organic cotton canvas, we did a lot of digging trying to find people that are sourcing well, and crafting ethically. We also got quite lucky with our silver to be honest, because this was something we almost gave up on, but we’re super amped to say we’re at around 90% recycled silver. By our next collection, we’ll be at 100% (fingers crossed)!

I’ll be honest, it took a while to figure a lot of all this out. Crafting ethically is definitely a lot harder than just making something with no thought of the wider impact, and we’re still on our journey. There were a lot of resources, friendly faces, and personal experiences that helped guide us. We believe this world needs more people crafting without harm... We know our part to play is only small, and that we can’t change the world alone, but we hope with time we can create an impact on this earth and make it a more beautiful place.
