Forged with recycled silver
It’s really rad to say that because it’s been quite the journey getting here.
It can be no easy feat finding the right people to work with. To find people who are not only talented crafters but who also care enough about how they craft. For us, we knew of the devastation and damage caused by the mining industry and the deeper we looked the more we realized it’s not something we can just turn the other cheek to.
We’re currently at 90% recycled sterling silver for our very first collection and for us this has been a massive feat. But we're working on getting this to 100% by our next collection.
So what is recycled silver? Well, recycling silver is the act of breaking down something already in existence and crafting into something else, crafting from what’s already provided. A lot of ours comes from commercial waste, electronics and circuit boards, and a small amount from jewellery.
Our recycled pure silver is sourced from Belgium, by a German recycled materials company who shares our ethical alignment. We got pretty lucky in getting the chance to work with such an amazing company, and are pretty proud to boast that our silver is the same stuff forged into luxury jewellery for a world-renowned label (we won’t drop names though, that’s a little too cheeky to let slip).
So how does recycled silver compare to the stuff sourced straight from the earth?
Well pure silver is pure silver no matter the source, but sterling silver is not quite always equal. Sterling silver is a compound of materials with 92.5% pure silver and the rest being other alloys. But we’ve got some brilliant minds on board and have forged a sterling silver that is four times more corrosion-resistant than traditional sterling, and stronger to boot. We'll share more on this soon!
We’ve also had a few people reach out to us for a sustainable source of silver – we’ve heard you. To help people, companies big and small take greener footsteps is something we want to be apart of.
We’re working on something, and though we can’t put our supply chain at risk, we do want to help our fellow crafters out there. We hope that soon we can provide you with a solution because we truly do want to help those around us.
